NAME
Oviedo lends it's name to the sudarium of Oviedo. It's said that it's a piece of cloth that covered the head of Jesus in the moment he died. Then it was stolen from his tomb and brought to Asturias in 856 AD.
HISTORY
Oviedo was founded by two monks which build up a church to Saint Vicent. Later on they chose Oviedo as capital because it was in the middle of the Visigothic Kingdom. IN the year 842 the court was moved there.

Santa Maria del Naranco:
It's a church build up in the Narnco mount. Many centuries ago it was used as the private house of the King Ramiro I. Now it's used as a monument

Cathedral of Oviedo:
The cathedral is the biggest religious building of Asturias. The king Fruela I decided to build it up but it took three centuries to finish it. Now it doesn't hold religious events regularly. It's declared world heritage site and many torisits visit it everyday.

Campoamor theater:
It's a very famous theater built in the year 1892. It helds mnay plays and operas every month. But the main event it helds are the Prince of Asturias Awards. This prizes are given to scientists, doctors, writters, sportsmanand cooperation.Last year Saskia Sassen (a dutch sociologyst) won the Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences
INSIDE PART
Uria Street:
It's the most important street of Oviedo. It was built to join the centre with the North train Station.
It took 11 years to finish it, and there was inaugurated in the year 1879.In the year 1918 the government decided to change it's name to "Street of France" but the whole city joined and they could continue with the old name. When it was built, the "Carbayon" was removed, but they have an honour plaque where the tree was.

Mauro Álvarez Fernandez
He was born in Oviedo and he loved sculpure since he was a toddler. He made figures with clay when he was only 8. He made "La regenta ". She is a character from a book which criticized the bourgeoisie of that time. She was very famous culturally.
